Star Dust Collection

Star Dust Collection

When I was a little girl, my great aunt on my mom’s side had a home in Pecos, New Mexico that my family and I would visit. The house had a backyard with large trees and a cotton woven hammock on the top of an incline which receded to the Pecos River. When you looked down onto the path, you could see these small glimmering objects if you were paying attention. The objects were small marbles, of the flat and round variety, that led down to a small structure not far from the river’s bank. That small hut-like structure was lovingly painted a hodgepodge of different colors and designs by my mom, aunts, my cousins, and I. This was the marble house. It had marbles all over the inside of the floor that were supposedly left by the marble fairies.

My great aunt passed away this year and this got me reminiscing on my fond childhood memories like this one. Her and her daughter both kept the marble house and the trail to the river carefully decorated with these shiny small objects. As a child, this was one of the most magical places I frequented. I was thinking of how important creating those experiences for children is, but also how important it is to foster in us as adults as well. The whimsy and magic that the marbles created sparked so much joy in the otherwise mundane. That feeling is exactly what I was after while creating this Star Dust line.

As we enter a weird period of uncertainty, I think it is valuable to hold onto the small moments that spark joy. As someone who has dealt with depression for over a decade, I have learned that it is so important to lean into the fun and play into our lives even when it feels tough to do so. One of my favorite go-to’s for the days when I really don’t feel like doing so, is wearing jewelry that makes me feel happy (and maybe wearing a little bit of glitter too).

The Star Dust Line is meant to be whimsical, playful, and illicit a feeling of possibility and wonder. I leaned into colors that sparked joy and I am hoping they do for you as well. You’ll see lots of shimmery shells and stones in colors like pinks, purples, deep blues, turquoise, and iridescent whites (I think the marble fairy would approve). When you see these pieces, I hope they spark joy for you and make you feel magical. Afterall, we are all made of Stardust and being reminded of our inherent power is important too.
